I mentioned the news earlier. You want to know what's going on, I want to know what's going on, we want to stay in the know. We want the news delivered to our door. And we can make this happen. I personally get my news from The Register, but it's mostly tech news related to the Internet. The best part is that I get the headlines by e-mail every day, with links to the stories themselves. I got this by subscribing to their mailing list. A mailing list is a service that some sites offer in order to keep you informed of changes in their site, or updates in the news, or whatever. All you do to join them, is to look around on their page for an empty text field identified as a mailing list, or with the word "subscribe" next to it, or something. Slap your e-mail address in the little text field, and hit "subscribe". You'll get an e-mail from them telling you what, if anything, you have to do next. And if you ever need to get off their mailing list, for whatever reason, there will be instructions on how to do that too. And there are sites like CNN that update every day, sometimes even more often. They may or not have a mailing list, but by bookmarking their page, you will be able to go back their right away. There are even some sites that use things called "cookies" to let you customize your experience when you go to their site, so that you don't get news on subjects you don't want to hear about. The mailing list concept doesn't just relate to news sites, either. I am starting a mailing list on my personal site, because I update infrequently, and I don't want my visitors to come back day after day and be disappointed. This way I can keep them informed when I make changes. There are all kinds of ways to keep up to date, if you look around. ![]() ![]() |
