Give It Away
When the last customers have left, put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights, and go home. There is notheing left for you to do. Tomorrow night the drunks and the vagabonds will return, but for now they are gone, and you can live in peace. Do you feel used? Do you feel loved? Someone once told me that people like you don't really have feelings, and shouldn't be respected. I know now that they were lying. Everyone has feelings, it's just that not everyone reacts to them in the same way. I, for example, may feel lonely and depressed. My reaction to that feeling is to write. I write poetry, short stories, and sometimes plays. Other people may destroy property and alienate their friends and family. Others still may go to the extreme, and end their lives. This is not for me. The ink kills all of my pain. When I write, my pain slides away and gives me relief for a time. I wish everybody could write, then we could all kill the pain together. No one would have to get hurt. No one would die. Music, I've found, also helps. It creates that feeling in the pit of my stomach, the feeling that forces me to write. I walked with her today. She told me her news. It was good news, and I was pleased. Everyone was pleased. It is not my place to say what is right and what is wrong, but I am human, and we all feel the urge to make that decision. Religion used to play such a vital role in our lives, but it doesn't seem to anymore. I just don't understand it. We have reached a point in history when the one thing we truly and desperatly need is an answer to our questions, and yet religion plays a less vital role than ever before. The wind blows through the trees sometimes, and I am made to wonder what will happen to us in the future. Where will we be? What will we be doing? I don't know, and I think that if anyone ever did, the world would end. The future is not ours. The past is not ours. We have only the present. I am a firm believer that all prayers are answered, but I also realize that it is not unheard of for the answer to be "no." This is a true thing, and like all true things, it shall be ignored by the leaders of this world, which are also its biggest fools. I'm going to hang up soon. Remember, everybody should do something nice for somebody else. Take what you have, and give it away.
