Orange!

The overhaul/redesign of Vestige is now about 50% complete. The blog is up to date; it also looks and works more or less how it should. The ‘More Vestige.org’ menu on the right hand side will take you the various other sections of this site, but as of this writing none of those sections have been redesigned or reorganized, so they will still look and function like the old site (and some links will not work, an unavoidable consequence of complications relating to migrating from one host to another). Also, hold off on buying tht CD I linked to in the previous entry. They’re cutting the tray cards well past the bleed, so I have to adjust the design.

Work in Progress

Well, it’s that time of year again, the time when I tinker with the website and screw up all the links. This time I’m not doing it because I’m bored, I’m doing it to spruce it up so I can get a job (plus I just migrated to a new host). For whatever reason, my old entries did not import properly, and so I must now add them by hand. This gives me the opportunity to fix any particularly gross errors in my spelling and grammar, as well as spot any gross errors in my CSS, but it is damned tedious business. When I resume operations tomorrow (or later today, I suppose), this post will have vanished, and something else will be in its place. Also, all of the links in the menu work, but if you follow them, none of them will bring you back here just yet.

Rebuilt, or Very Nearly

Having now had some time to sit down and work on the site, I have managed to restore the templates and all but the first four entries. Those entries were saved, but are not available to me until Christmas, for reasons too complicated to go into. Many of the entries had comments, and I will restore those as well, but it will take time, so please be patient. In the meantime, I will resume posting as per usual. Thank you for your patience.

Continuing To Evolve

As promised, this site continues to evolve. New sections, or rather re-worked old ones, have been added and can be accessed via the dropdown menu at the top right of the page. Please don’t bookmark anything yet, as when I got up this morning I noticed some errors that need correcting. Your patience is appreciated.

Anniversary

It may interest some of you to know that this month marks vestige.org’s third year online. I’m not sure of the exact date I launched this site, but I’m certain that it’s very close to today’s date, if not today’s date. So. Happy anniversary.

Almost There

All the templates are up and built. I’m still of the opinion that the search and comment templates aren’t what they could (or should) be, but I don’t know enough about Movable Type‘s proprietary tags (are they proprietary?) to mess with them further at this point. After the holidays I’ll take another look. For now it’s enough that they work. I’m going to Julianne’s in the morning. The trip is eight hours via Greyhound, but I don’t mind. I’ll get some sleep, and maybe get some reading done. Speaking of reading, I recently finished a project on Nabokov’s Lolita for my Contemporary American Literature class. It’s a little rough around the edges, but have fun with it anyway. And as always, Wooden Fish is still accepting submissions for our second issue.

First Day With A New Toy

I’ve got everything more or less working. Movable Type was a tremendous pain in the ass to set up, but it works, and that means I’m happy. Not everything works yet. Well, that’s not entirely true. everything works, I just haven’t built the templates yet. So everything except the index page looks ugly as all hell. But have no fear, I will work long and hard to get this blog looking the way it should, and then with a little luck you’ll hear from me more often. Also, I should probably let you know that this blog is just the first step in a complete overhaul of vestige.org. It will soon be a collection of five or six mini-sites, unified only through basic design principles, and the fact that they’re all built and run by me. This way I don’t have to feel so bad when I don’t update every… Continue Reading
